Tough times can bring struggles which can create doubt. Henry Drummond, a tremendous Christians minister in the 1800's declared, Christ never failed to distinguish between doubt and unbelief...Doubt is looking for light; unbelief is contentment with darkness.
John Bunyan confronted doubt in The Pilgrim's Progress. As Christian and his companion Hopeful journeyed to the Celestial City, they were captured by giant Despair and placed in the dungeon in Doubting Castle. They spent three days and nights in the dungeon where they were beaten and tempted to commit suicide. Christian's release from Doubting Castle came through fellowship with Hopeful, their prayers, and their use of the Key of Promise, the promises of Scripture.
It is easy to become overwhelmed by doubt but I encourage each of us to learn how to deal with it Biblically. A writer said recently that he need only focus on two attributes of God to know that He can be trusted - He is sovereign and He is good. Take some time to consider the message under Topical Studies, Concerning Doubt. Doubts evaporate as we dig into His word.
